Kaniecki Receives Golden Apple Award -  Beverly Kaniecki, principal of St. Joseph High School, Natrona Heights, has received the first Golden Apple Award from the Diocese of Pittsburgh for principals. The award includes a $5,000 grant. Mrs. Kaniecki has served as principal of the high school since 1991, prior to that she was a math teacher at the school from 1979 to 1990, and graduated from the school in 1964. 12/22/2007 Michael Barkowski Scores 1000th Career Point -  Congratulations to Spartan Senior Mike Barkowski who scored his 1000th career point on December 4th. He scored his 1000th point on a three pointer in the second quarter and he finished the game with 21 points. 06/24/2007 Student Wins at National Competition -  St. Joseph High School Freshman Ariel Schroeder took Second Place at the National History Day competition at the University of Maryland June 10-14, 2007. This is only the third time since 1986 that a representative of the school has finished in the top three. SJHS had eight students represent the school at the national competition this year. Schroeder received Second Place in the Senior Individual Historical Paper category for Ignaz Semmelweis and Childbed Fever: Turning the Tragedy of Untimely Death into the Triumph of Regained Life. 06/04/2007 Alum Receives Academic Award -  SJHS Alum (‘02) Matthew Zidek recently received the Eric A. and Josephine S. Walker Award, the highest academic award in the Penn State school system. Each year, one student at each of the 24 Penn State campuses receives this award, recognizing a student who exhibits outstanding qualities of character, scholarship, citizenship, and leadership which contributes to the overall prestige of the campus. 06/03/2007 Alum Update -  Midshipman Brian T. Arroyo (‘05) is preparing for his summer training blocks as part of his studies at the Naval Academy. He is set to graduate in 2010. His first training block will be a Surface Cruise aboard the DDG98 USS Forrest Shermann. After a Yard Patrol (YP) Cruise, he will return to "The Yard" for more training before classes resume in August. Brian’s mom visited him last month for "Plebe Recognition Week," where she watched him participate in "Sea Trials," the "Welcome Parade," Herndon, and the Plebe Recognition Ceremony. "Sea Trials" consisted of 15 hours of various learn more...
